    Welcome and Overview

Boston College High School Athletics, with its long and storied tradition of success, operates with the commitment to educate our student-athletes on the importance of values and team work.

Our coaching staff consists of dedicated men and women who serve as outstanding role models for our student-athletes. These coaches understand that besides playing to win, their role as coach includes character formation and positive sportsmanship. The athletic philosophy at BC High is no different from our academic philosophy – the playing fields are an extension of the classroom.

The student-athletes at the school understand they represent not just themselves, but the entire BC High community when they wear the maroon and gold uniform. How they conduct themselves on and off the field is important to their overall well-being and attitude.

As a BC High alumnus, I am proud of what I see on a daily basis in the athletic program. The coaches and athletes flourish in a positive environment at BC High, constantly looking at ways to better themselves as athletes and people. These high expectations are what make BC High one of the most respected athletic programs in the state. I am proud of that fact, and will continue to make sure the tradition continues.

So thank you for taking time to look at BC High Athletics, and as always: Go Eagles!

    Sincerely,

    Jon Bartlett '87

    Overview
The athletic program at Boston College High School is an extension of the classroom, with the understanding that the coaches will meet the same expectations as the BC High teacher. Our coaches will be teachers of their sport in every sense of the term, with emphasis on how the student-athlete grows in a particular sport. As we ask each student-athlete to continue their journey towards the The Graduate at Graduation we also remind coaches to incorporate the Grad at Grad's five characteristics into their coaching style:

Open To Growth: Coaches should be open to new ideas and acceptant of other viewpoints. Coaches must react in a positive manner and become good role models when dealing with adversity, especially in front of their student-athletes.

Intellectually Competent: Coaches will continually look to master their sport. Each coach must exhibit a high level of competence and an appreciation of continued learning.

Religious: Coaches must realize and appreciate the Jesuit principles that animate our school, and incorporate the 'Men For Others' theme of the school into their sport.

Loving: While establishing their coaching identity at the school, coaches will promote care for the student-athlete and care for the good name of the school. There should be a mutual respect between the student-athlete and the coach.

Committed To Doing Justice: Each decision that is made by the coach should be done for the good of the student-athlete and for the good of BC High.

As we place high expectations on our student-athletes, so too, should the coaching staff and athletic administration at Boston College High be held to the same high expectations. At BC High, athletics is more than just the winning. Coaches are at the school to develop positive attitudes, sportsmanship, discipline, respect for one another, and respect for the game they play.

BC High adheres to the rules and regulations of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
