Two hundred and ninety-one seniors crossed the stage in BC High’s McNeice Pavilion on Sunday, becoming the school’s newest class of alumni. The school's One Hundred and Forty-Eight Commencement Exercises drew a crowd of over 3,000.
Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley, O.F.M. Cap., the event’s featured speaker, urged the graduates to hold on to the ideal taught at BC High of being “men for others,” noting that society too often turns from community to the individual.
“For generations Boston College High School been preparing its students to be leaders in our community, in the Church and across many industries," said O'Malley. "It is always an honor for me to attend the graduation ceremonies and to extend my deep appreciation for their achievements and my prayers for a prosperous, healthy and productive future. I join the entire Archdiocese in extending my sincere congratulations on the occasion of their commencement.”
The crowd also listened to Ryan Blake ’12 and Tyler Lucek ’12 tell their stories of struggle and accomplishment during their time at BC High. Blake noted his transition from being a poor runner to being a standout on the track team, due, in large part, to the support of his teammates.
In addition to the Class of 2012, members of the Class of 1962 were presented with diplomas, marking the occasion of their 50th reunion from BC High.
