MOCK TRIAL
Trial courts are responsible for the development of all our common law and serve as the primary means of resolving private and public legal disputes. The Mock Trial Program is a fun, intellectual battlefield, which gives students the opportunity to develop not only their critical thinking skills but also all manner of communication skills, including oral presentation, critical listening, responsiveness, writing and more, as well as nuances, such as tone and diction.

BC High’s Mock Trial Team is assigned one side of a hypothetical case (plaintiff or defendant), and receives rules of the court and evidence in the case. Team members analyze the evidence, determine a trial strategy and execute their strategy against the opponent at a simulated trial overseen by a judge (often licensed attorneys). Students, playing the roles of attorneys and witnesses, make opening statements, elicit testimony of witnesses and cross examine witnesses and more. A favorable ruling of a judge allows the team to advance through the regional competition. This is a great activity for future lawyers, politicians, and entrepreneurs, or anyone who likes acting or mental puzzles.

ROWING CLUB
The BC High Rowing Club seeks to teach student-athletes the ancient sport of rowing and to enable each oarsman to succeed in this intellectually demanding and physically grueling endeavor. While competition, both within the team and interscholastically, is at the highest level, the primary focus of the team is for every oarsman to have a positive growth experience with the sport. Though winning is one barometer of the team's success, a truer gauge is the degree to which each athlete pushes himself to realize the highest standards of conditioning, teamwork, and commitment to each other. The coaches believe rowing is a 'lifetime sport', that is, one a person can do as long as he or she remains physically active, and one whose demands of physical effort and mental toughness will enrich the other aspects of a person's life.

We practice 6 days per week and, depending upon the season, race nearly every weekend. When a rower makes the team, he is affirming his commitment to the time, effort and dedication required to row for BC High. Our ultimate goal is to become one of the top junior rowing programs in the United States.

SPANISH CLUB

The primary goal of Spanish Club is to provide a setting in which individuals may gain an understanding and a respect of the culture of the Hispanic world. By engaging in cultural activities, individuals may take the knowledge of the theory behind the Spanish language and may use this to engage in oral practice of the language through discussions with their peers. Spanish Club is meant to be an additional supplement to the classroom for individuals who have a true passion for the Spanish language. This being said, Spanish Club recognizes that entertaining learning is very effective and engaging. Thus, Spanish Club has a mission to provide educational yet entertaining activities on a regular basis to the students of Boston College High School.

Students from any Spanish level are welcome to participate. The club includes games, movies, music and videos and other social activities which are focused on Spanish culture.
