The Belize Service Immersion Program partners with Hand in Hand’s Building for Change program. Juniors will work alongside a family to build a 16’ X 20’ house in Belize City, where 65% of the population lives in poverty.
Students will also visit children marginalized by poverty and disease at the Hand in Hand Outreach Center which provides day care and preschool services, and hear about their innovative mobile outreach services to fight HIV/AIDS among children. All of these programs work to empower the recipients of these services to build a better life for their families while giving back to their community by assisting with other Hand in Hand projects. Students will also have a chance to visit the beautiful Bay Islands. Juniors will receive service and retreat credit for this seminar.
Participating in a service immersion trip is a privilege that must be approached with prayer, wisdom, and discernment. Students will need to fulfill all necessary requirements for pre trip departure, on-site experiences and post trip reflection. Students will meet with their group leaders for these preparation meetings several times throughout the school year. Students receive retreat and service credit for the completion of the program.
