    Dear friends:

  • Lazarus Project Featured on NBC10 Nightly News

Perry Russom of NBC10 Boston was on hand to capture the emotions of BC High students as they laid Ezequiel Mendez to rest last Wednesday. Mendez is one of many served by St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston, which covers the cost of funeral and burial expenses for those who struggled with poverty and homelessness in life. Young men from BC High serve as pallbearers and mourners at these services, honoring the lives of people they never knew. For Lucca Possamai ’19 the ministry is about human connection and the dignity of life even after death, "I want to make sure that Ezekial is remembered. That his legacy doesn't die and that he wasn't abandoned during his funeral. It's another human being.

These “Men for Others” learn through the Lazarus Project that in serving others we are served. In celebrating the lives of these forgotten brothers and sisters we draw closer to the radical kinship God wants for us. Felipe Santos ’19, on his third Lazarus Funeral, summed up the transformative effect, "Through this, I've learned that service is my passion. When I leave BC High, I want to go somewhere I can do the same and continue doing that for a career, or maybe the rest of my life."

  • Mass of the Holy Spirit

The Classes of 2022 and 2024, freshmen and 7th-graders, processed into the Mass of the Holy Spirit to thunderous applause. This mass, a time-honored Ignatian tradition, is used in Jesuit schools across the world to start the year by invoking the Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us. At BC High, new Eagles are applauded as a display of brotherhood from their fellow students, and recognition from the faculty and staff on the accomplishment of joining the community.
In addition to welcoming the boys, we hosted more than 200 parents for coffee, blessed our newest faculty and staff, and even managed to convert a few Yankees fans (Father Croghan, SJ and Father Nolan, SJ).

    The Class of 2018

So, I was sitting in (Mr.) Stedman’s AP US History class the other day, you know, taking notes and asking insightful questions, when I got distracted by my computer and made my way over to Wikipedia. Don’t worry Mr. Stedman, I got the notes after class. 10 minutes later, having fallen deep into a click hole, I somehow ended up reading an article on some Greek dude named Prometheus. Prometheus, the article said, is the famed titan responsible for stealing fire from the Gods. He gave that fire to humanity, a gift which lead to the entirety of human advancement to this day.
