Our keynote speaker is Rob Bergquist’10. He is a graduate of Boston College High School and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he studied business and played soccer. He and his sister Brittany founded Cell Phones for Soldiers in 2004, when Rob was 12 years old. Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit that uses funds from recycled cell phones to buy prepaid phone cards for our service men and women, helping them connect with their families. This organization was formed in 2004 and later expanded through financial support from AT&T.
Most recently, Forbes Magazine named them in their 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneurs for their efforts to connect military members serving around the globe. They have been recognized as one America’s top young entrepreneurs. Previous winners of this award include: Mark Zuckerberg, Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel, SNL’s Kate McKinnon, Chance, the Rapper, and Youtube’s Michelle Phan. Forbes selected Rob and Brittany Bergquist from among 15,000 nominees.
Because BC High Model UN addresses the international issue of post traumatic stress disorder this year, it is most appropriate to have Mr. Rob Bergquist’10, a proponent of soldier support services, as our speaker.
