Technological resources are powerful tools, and the appropriate use of technology is an essential element of being a good steward of God’s gift of intelligence. BC High is committed to the use of technology to strengthen each community member’s relationship with God.

Digital Content

Digital content is delivered in the form of eTexts, eBooks, iBooks and Course Packs through a variety of platforms. Students engage curriculum using a variety of common educational apps as well as subject specific apps, primarily Canvas, our Learning Management System. A sampling of commonly used apps include Notability, Adobe Voice, Google Drive, Explain Everything, iMovie, Garage Band, Socrative, Quizlet, Pages, Keynote and Baiboard.

1:1 Program

Our 1:1 program was implemented in September, 2012. iPads are used as a tool to enhance teaching and learning and are the primary delivery source of course content for all of our students. Student use of technology and our 1:1 program will strive to enhance academic enrichment, college preparation and foster creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, digital literacy and is contemplative in action.

  • Infrastructure

    All classrooms are equipped with projectors, AppleTV and AirPlay, used to wirelessly stream/mirror content from iPads and MacBooks to whiteboards and increase teacher mobility. All conference rooms, auditoriums and gymnasiums also have multimedia display capabilities. All faculty and staff are issued a personal laptop and iPad.

    Students access their class schedule, report cards and daily announcements through Blackbaud K-12, our SIS (Student Information System).
  • Canvas

    BC High has recently adopted Canvas, by Instructure, as our new Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is an online learning platform that allows teachers and students to share content and interact throughout a course. It provides the faculty with features to engage students, provide feedback and to maximize their digital pedagogy to improve student learning. Canvas also has a Parent app. The Parent app allows parents to view assignment descriptions and due dates, view assignment grades and feedback, view course grades, set grade alerts, and view course announcements.
  • Printing on Campus

    Students can print directly from their iPads and have access to wireless printers in the Arrupe lobby and in the Corcoran Library.
  • Wireless Network

    All buildings on campus have access to wifi.
  • Corcoran Library

    The Corcoran Library has two computer labs for class use, over 25,000 books, including eBooks, 25 magazine subscriptions and 40 research databases.
  • Mac Lab

    The Mac Lab has 28 iMacs and is used daily in our academic and extracurricular pursuits, including Algebra I with Java. The Fine Arts Department uses the Mac Lab, specifically for Advanced Digital Photography Honors, Digital Film Making I & II, AP Drawing, 2D Design and Architectural Drawing. The Macs are equipped with photo editing and graphic design tools, including Adobe Bridge, Camera RAW, Adobe Photoshop and iPhoto. Film students use the Mac Lab for film and sound editing with Final Cut Pro, Garage Band and iPhoto. Architectural Drawing uses Google Sketch-Up in the Mac Lab. The Mac Lab is also used for research as well as library instruction, specifically the effective navigation of the databases i.e. search terms, filtering results, citations etc.
  • Learning Commons

    The Learning Commons has two Windows desktops and two iMacs and three wireless printers.
  • Fine Arts Studios

    Studios 1 & 2 each have four iMacs and full-color photo printers. iMacs are equipped with Photoshop Creative Suite applications including Lightroom, Photoshop, and InDesign, used in Mixed Media Design Honors, Digital Photography and Studio Art 2-D Design AP.
  • Adobe Creative Suite

    Fine Art students have access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications as well as 100 GB of cloud storage.
  • Gregory E. Bulger Performing Arts Center

    Stagecraft, Acting and Film Classes use the Gregory E. Bulger Performing Arts Center, that is equipped with a Burger ETC 48/96 Lightboard and Soundcraft GB4 Sound Board. Students also use power and hand tools as well as the sewing machine in the Makerspace for set construction and costume design.
  • The Makerspace

    The makerspace aims to foster a maker mindset of growth and provide an inclusive space for creativity, collaboration of ideas, exploration, and invention. The space facilitates a blend of arts, humanities, science, and technology and justice projects. Students build their knowledge of content and skills by brainstorming, designing, planning and executing projects with student and adult ‘maker’ mentors.

    The space will be open to all teachers, students, and classes during and after school hours. The space is open occasionally offer evening parent or community outreach programs.
  • Video Conferencing

    The Cadigan Lecture Hall is equipped with video conferencing equipment used for remote collaboration, including virtual field trips, speakers, virtual classroom exchanges with schools abroad ( i.e. Collegi Kostka, Spain and St. Aloysius’, Scotland ) as well as professional development.

  • Will students be able to print at school or do I need to purchase a wireless printer?

    Wireless printers are available in the Arrupe lobby and in the Corcoran Library. As long as students plan accordingly, you will not need to purchase a wireless printer for your home.
  • Will students receive assistance with setting up their iPad?

    Students are required to attend an iPad Set Up Session over the summer to review accessing the networks, configuring email and adding content to the device. Students will be introduced to skills that will be reinforced in their classes.
  • What kind of iPad is acceptable?

    We suggest that students purchasing a new device purchase the iPad 6th gen with at least 128G of memory. Please visit our custom Apple Store We have added recommended items to the shopping bag. Specific items in the bag are encouraged, not required. Please remove items from the bag as you wish, by deleting them. You will receive a small discount on Apple products that you purchase through our custom site.

    If you are passing down an iPad, we would not recommend using an iPad older than an iPad Air2 or an iPad Mini2. Over time, even those will begin to have compatibility issues with newer operating system updates and app updates.

Students participate in a number of Advisory and MMP activities, as well as individual classroom lessons on topics including ethics, well being, identity and reputation, media literacy, relationship management, privacy, legality and misappropriation of text, image and sound.
