What are BC High's Centers of Human Excellence?

The Centers of Human Excellence define what it means to pursue human excellence through Jesuit education. These programs help our students fully grow into men of competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment.

These centers are designed to nurture students into spiritual leaders, innovative thinkers, global citizens, and fierce advocates for social justice. The Centers open doors for students to connect classroom knowledge to real-world impact, empowering them to stretch their wings and take ownership of their future.

Certificate Programs for High School Students

Each of our five centers offer a student-driven academic and formational Certificate Program that students can elect to begin during their sophomore year course selection process. There are five certificate tracks that our students can take to pursue depth inside the classroom, through co-curriculars, and in the community.

Why the Centers of Human Excellence?

The Centers of Human Excellence provide a framework for holistic education rooted in Jesuit values. They play a vital role in helping students develop into individuals of competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment.

As a Jesuit institution, we are part of a global network of schools guided by important documents that shape our students’ formation. While each document serves its own purpose, together they create a comprehensive framework that responds to the mission of the Society of Jesus.

Each of our five Centers provide a robust framework that empowers students to become spiritually grounded leaders, innovators, global citizens, and passionate advocates for social justice. Supporting 50+ academic classes aligned with their respective spheres of influence, the Centers provide Eagles with greater opportunities to stretch their wings.

These courses not only embody the work of the Centers but also offer programmatic experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.

Centers of Human Excellence Certificate Programs

Through the Centers of Human Excellence Certificate Programs BC High students can delve deeper into their interests.

These student-driven academic and formational programs intertwine the curriculum with Center programming, promoting intentional exploration of topics, self-reflection, and ownership of one’s learning.

Eagles register for Certificate Program courses during sophomore class registration and carry them through to Graduation.

The Five Centers of Human Excellence

Cura Personalis: Care for the Whole Person

At the heart of the Centers of Human Excellence is Cura Personalis, a Jesuit value meaning “care for the whole person.” This approach embodies holistic education, ensuring that students are supported academically, socially, spiritually, and emotionally.

Through hands-on projects, partnerships, and entrepreneurial opportunities, students learn to think creatively and solve real-world problems. This Center fosters innovation and prepares students to take bold steps as leaders in a rapidly changing world.

Students develop leadership skills through coursework, service, and experiential opportunities. The Center for Leadership helps young men grow into responsible leaders who act with integrity, vision, and compassion.

By engaging with global perspectives, international travel, and cross-cultural learning, students gain the knowledge and empathy needed to thrive as global citizens. This Center prepares them to address worldwide challenges with competence and care.

Rooted in Jesuit education, the Center for Ignatian Identity & Formation helps students strengthen their relationship with God and live out their faith through reflection, prayer, retreats, and service. It emphasizes personal growth and commitment to the greater good.

The Center for Justice & Belonging fosters inclusivity, cultural awareness, and respect for difference. Students learn to value diversity and advocate for equity and justice, becoming men who contribute positively to every community they join.
