BC High Soccer Coach Billy Ryan ’77 Announces Retirement

Ryan served as BC High Head Soccer Coach from 1993–2024

Boston, MA – After 32 years of dedicated service, Coach Billy Ryan ’77, P'14, '17, '22 has announced his retirement as Head Varsity Soccer Coach at Boston College High School. A proud figure in the BC High community, Coach Ryan leaves behind a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and service that has profoundly shaped the lives of countless student-athletes.

Coach Ryan’s remarkable career includes induction into the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the BC High Athletic Hall of Fame. His accomplishments on the field are equally impressive, with over 300 career victories, 11 Catholic Conference Championships, 5 South Sectional Finals appearances, 1 Eastern Massachusetts Title, and 1 MIAA State Championship. He was also named Division 1 Coach of the Year during his tenure.

Beyond his success on the field, Coach Ryan is celebrated for his commitment to the community. For over a decade, he supported the Ellie Fund, raising thousands of dollars to assist women battling breast cancer. His leadership extended far beyond soccer, as he consistently prioritized the development of his players as young men of character and compassion.

BC High President Grace Cotter Regan P'12 expressed her gratitude and admiration for Coach Ryan’s contributions:
“Billy Ryan has been a cornerstone of the BC High community for over three decades. His passion for the game, his dedication to his players, and his commitment to our mission have left an indelible mark on our school. Billy’s leadership has been defined by his care for others, both on and off the field, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of Eagles. On behalf of the entire BC High family, I want to thank Billy for his extraordinary service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

“I would like to thank Coach Ryan for his many years of stewardship to BC High and the soccer program,” said Athletic Director Tom Conley ’08. “As an alumnus, Coach Ryan took immense pride in representing his school and mentoring the hundreds of student-athletes he coached. More so than his and his teams’ on-field success, Coach Ryan loved supporting our young men off the field as well as supporting the Ellie Fund for many years.”

Coach Ryan’s retirement marks the end of an era for BC High soccer, but his impact will be felt for years to come.

BC High will begin the search for the next head coach of soccer as soon as possible.
